Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, the bad boys. Returning to the silver screen in 2024, we’re anticipating more fast cars, more explosions and more classic buddy cop humor.
Bad Boys debuted in 1995, starring Will Smith & Martin Lawrence as buddy cops in the Miami Police Narcotics department.
Their adventures were brought to life by Michael Bay, renowned for his love of explosions and high octane action scenes, and he certainly brought his signature style to the movie.
Mike Lowrey (played by Will Smith) drives an iconic car in the movie, a black 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6. The car was actually owned by Michael Bay at the time, and he used it in the movie. Which other cars featured in the franchise, and did they live up to the 911?
Mike and Marcus’ Cars
1994 Porsche 911 (964) Turbo 3.6
Movie: Bad Boys (1995)
Color: Black
This Porsche set the trend for the Bad Boys franchise, just in a way you may not imagine. As Mike races the 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 in an impromptu drag race, and wins, he made an icon of the car, forever linking Porsche with Mike’s character.
2002 Ferrari 575M Maranello
Movie: Bad Boys II (2003)
Color: Titanium
Despite the 911 leading to Mike’s victory at the end of Bad Boys, he’s behind the wheel of a Ferrari in the sequel, Bad Boys II. Weirdly enough, only one Ferrari was in the scenes at any one time, but they used 3 Ferraris for filming, with 2 being provided by Ferrari themselves.
1999 Ferrari 550 Maranello
Movie: Bad Boys II (2003)
Color: Titanium
As the second Ferrari used in filming, this 550 Maranello was from Michael Bay’s personal collection, just like the original Porsche 911. Filming had gone very smoothly until the end, when Martin Lawrence crashed the car into a concrete block.
2004 Nissan Quest 3.5 SL
Movie: Bad Boys for Life (2020)
Color: Custom Gold…ish
It may be a decidedly terrible color and far from a Ferrari, but the humble Quest delivered on one thing, the line of “We've got Mike Lowrey in here! Mike Lowrey in a Nissan Quest!” from Marcus Burnett.
2020 Porsche 911 (992) Carrera 4S
Movie: Bad Boys for Life (2020)
Color: Gentian Blue
Regarded by a majority of Porsche & Bad Boys fans as a downgrade for Mike, the Carrera doesn’t have the same presence as its predecessor, and shocked many after an iconic 911 and Ferrari then led to a cheaper 911 model.
2023 Porsche 911 (992) Turbo S
Movie: Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024)
Color: Black
We know that this model has been used, as Will Smith’s stunt double was sighted driving this on set in Miami, but we have yet to see more than the trailer!
Iconic Rivals & Background
As much as our two protagonists have set the standard for cars, a great many more iconic and significant cars feature through villains or in the background of impressive sets.
1965 Shelby Cobra 427
Movie: Bad Boys (1995)
Color: Midnight Blue
Driven by the first movie’s villain Antoine Fouchet (played by Tcheky Karyo), the Cobra loses a short drag race to Lowrey’s 911. The car was listed for auction, not having been driven since the filming of the movie, in 2023.
2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4
Movie: Bad Boys for Life (2020)
Color: Arancio Argos (Orange)
This car wasn’t featured in the movie for very long at all, used in just 1 background shot, showing Michael Bay has access to a major catalog of cars that mean serious business!
How the High-Speed Action of Bad Boys Impacts Car Detailing Needs
The intense car chases and high-octane scenes in the Bad Boys franchise don’t just thrill audiences—they also highlight how extreme driving conditions can leave vehicles covered in dirt, dust, and debris. Just like Mike Lowrey’s iconic Porsche after a high-speed pursuit, your vehicle may need regular car detailing to maintain its pristine look.
Professional car detailing services go beyond the car wash and offer a deep clean for both the interior and exterior. It can help remove grime, polish the exterior, and preserve the luxurious interior, ensuring that your car stays in top condition, whether it's on or off the road.
